My Paintings are My Prayer for the Earth

"My Paintings are My Prayer for the Earth"
Glen Haffy White Pine
All of my paintings are inspired from my time walking on the Bruce Trail or just spending time outside in natural spaces. I take multiple photos of my surroundings from different angles and then edit the photos to achieve the desired composition for the painting.

Glen Haffy Scott Pine
Much of my inspiration comes from my hikes on the Bruce Trail. When the light is right and the highlights and shadows form on the trees the forest comes to life.

Beamer Memorial Early Spring
On this particular hike we had waited quite some time before the conditions and the timing came together. Worth the wait, the conditions were perfect for hiking and the forest was at its freshest just awakening from its winter sleep. The colours were clean and alive with the new spring growth.

Terra Cotta Hemlock
Another inspirational tree from a walk on the Bruce Trail. The day was hot and the colours bright with summer foliage. The contrast is tremendous on the towering truck of this Hemlock.

Vineland Poplar
Sometimes the things we see everyday look amazing in a new light. That was the case for this photo. It is a painting of the poplar tree in my backyard. The spring sun was soft and bright and the new leaves a wonderful baby green.

Beamer Memorial Leaning Cedar
Beamer Memorial Conservation area is one of my favorite places to walk. This is another spring painting where the back lighting is the main focus. The cedars here hang on the edge of the escarpment slope.

Niagara Parkway Oaks
The reference photo for this painting is taken on a beautiful summer day when I arrived a few minutes early for work and decided to have a quick stroll on the Niagara parkway paths that run beside the Niagara river. Gorgeous summer colours and the movement of the breeze through the trees are the focus of this painting.

Beamer Memorial Summer Forest
This soft autumn light has a cooling effect on this painting. Pastel colours and the diminishing light of the fall season are the inspiration behind this work.

St. Davids Black Walnut
It always amazes me that everyday things can look totally different in a different light. On this day I was filling up with gas and I noticed this tree across from me and stopped to take a few photos. The fall leaves had almost fallen off and the fall light was soft and warm.

Limehouse Cedars
On a beautiful warm early summer day my sister and I headed out on another leg of our Bruce Trail adventure. It was a very interesting walk along the escarpment, up and down the limestone cliffs and past historical sites. The sun was bright and the cedars shone pink in the forest light. This tree painting shows the entanglement of the roots and the limestone in the pastel light.

Beamer Memorial Cedars on the Edge
I love the way the roots of this cedar cling to the edge of the escarpment slope. The cool violets of the cedar trunk are a beautiful compliment to the rich fall colours of the background.

Sydenham White Pine
This gorgeous pastel pine was photographed on the Bruce Trail near Dundas. The light on this particular day was optimal and the colours of the forest were vibrant. These blues, purples and greens are cool and soothing as the forest was that day.

Niagara-on-the-Lake London Plane Tree
The Niagara region, as populated as it is, still has some really incredible large trees. I often stop along my way to take photographs of trees when the light is particularly favourable. This image was taken on a late autumn day when the orange leaves had not yet fallen off. The resulting tree art combines the warm and the cool colours of this London plane tree.
